Jerry Parsons

Jerry Montgomery Parsons, Ph.D., the second son of Oneita and Herbert Parsons, was born February 4, 1946, in Memphis, Tennessee.  After graduating from Fayette County High School in his home town of Somerville, TN, he earned a B.S. degree in agricultural education from the University of Tennessee.  He then got a Masters Degree in vegetable production from Mississippi State and went to Kansas State for a Ph.D. in fruit production.

Dr. Parsons moved to San Antonio, Texas, in 1974 as a vegetable specialist with the Texas Cooperative Extension Service of Texas A&M University.  For over thirty years, he has been extensively involved in the media, writing for newspapers and producing programs for television and radio, becoming something of a cult figure in Texas horticulture and gardening circles.  One of his most significant contributions has been creation of http://plantanswers.com, a horticulture web site recognized worldwide.
